Kaduna, Northwest Nigeria: It was a humanitarian engagement in northern Nigeria in March 2023 and the period of Ramadan, the fasting month for Muslims across the globe, when a Facebooker, Auwal Adam, filmed and posted an unusual picture and video of a lady, Fatima Usman, producing a local brick with the hope of building a house on her inherited land in the Rigasa community in the Igabi local government area of Kaduna state.
After seeing the heart-touching pictures of the helpless Fatima and her teenage children carrying the produced bricks to the farthest destination of their land, almost one kilometer away, some Facebookers started fundraising in her favor to occupy a house.
The fundraising, which is about N2.9 million ($6500 equivalent), became Fatima’s breakthrough, as she grew from grass to grace by achieving her long dream of becoming a landlord, which became a reality through people’s sympathy for her status as an orphan whose husband fled. In contrast, the landlord put pressure on her and threatened to throw away her belongings from not able to pay her rent dues.
Daily Episode gathered that a house was bought in Fatima’s name with the money raised from the Facebook fundraising by a committee responsible for her humanitarian service for about N2.5 million ($5,500 equivalent) in the Rigasa community while also purchasing furniture and food for her well-being.
How Fatima Reunites With Her Husband And Gets A New House
The sketchy and strange story for the community prompted the leadership of the emirate council in the community—the Rigasa district head, who doubled as the Dan Galadiman Zazza, Arch. Aminu Idris Min—to constitute a committee to investigate the whole issue and ensure transparency and accountability in the process of fundraising, the purchase of the house, and Fatima’s family affairs.
However, Daily Episode gathered that Fatima’s husband, Malam Usman Muhammad, was given a two-hour ultimatum by the emirate council to appear before the set committee or be arrested and face the wrath of the law.
According to the reports, Malam Usman appeared before the committee in a critical health condition after being scolded.
I had no means of providing necessities for my family after losing everything to armed bandits who kidnapped me a few months ago. Before my abduction, I was a very responsible husband and father who covered every financial bill and family need, but the truth is that I fled, but not abandoned, my family, as previously published in a series of stories on social media my wife was filmed producing local bricks as against the cultural orientation of Hausa and Islam. Usman Disclosed
I lost my property, even the motorcycle I use for commercial purposes, and money worth N400,000 to ransom for my freedom, so I was traumatized and could not control the situation.
But I promised not to run or do something that will harm my family; I promise the Emirate Council, and I will stand by any of your rulings,” Usman noted after he was considered and given a strong warning by the Dalatun Dan Galadiman Zazzau, Abubakar Bello, who represented the district head during the meeting.
How excitement triggered Fatima to give out her inherited land to her husband
It was strange before the committee, journalists, and some well-wishers when Fatima broke the silence to appreciate how her husband, Usman, sacrificed everything he had for his family. He had made several attempts to build the land for me, but due to financial incapability and his health situation, he couldn’t.
Emotions and excitement made the people in the office, sit in silence while Fatima continued to thank Allah and the Nigerians who came to her rescue when she was helpless and suffering to do something almost impossible.
I don’t have a single word to thank everyone, but I believe we will also pray for Allah’s blessing upon every one of you, your families, and your businesses.
Such a dream couldn’t be achieved without your support, and I am confident I won’t disappoint you all in also providing humanitarian support to others. She added.
