A youth organization, Ekid Youths Union has criticized the Akwa State Governor, Emmanuel Udom over the increasingly insecurity situation in the state.
In a statement signed by the group’s Publicity Secretary, Akanimoh Akanimoh, and made available to Daily Episode, it condemned the recent killings and attacks on citizens and security personnel in Essien Udim and other parts of the state despite the huge security votes and allocations which the state accrues.
“As an organization, we’ strongly condemn on all sides the teeming security crises and security threats unfolding gradually in the state right under the silent and unresponsive watch of the government under Governor Udom Emmanuel.
For over a month now, Akwa Ibom people have had reasons to live life in fear and endless grieve rising from the unanticipated terror that has befallen them. From the essien Udim mayhem on people and security personnels and the careless air action of the military , to the daily burning of police facilities in the state, just recently about two have been burnt in Ika and Ikono and we may not know further plans on where will be next” the statement said.
It drew the attention of the state government to the current trending case of a young job seeker, Ini Umoren who was brutally raped and murdered when she went for a job interview as one of the evidences of the passive response to security by the Akwa Ibom government, insisting that residents in Uyo, the state capital and other parts of the state no longer feel safe and cannot go about their daily activities without fear of being killed or kidnapped.
It urged the Governor and is security agencies to be alive to their constitutional responsibilities of securing the lives and properties of people in the state, warning that should further ugly incidents occur, the group, which claims to represent the whole youths in the state would be forced to implement self help measures which will result in the shutting down of the whole state borders.
