The Kano State Police Command has confirmed that five persons have died following an explosion at a scrap collection site along the Eastern Bypass in Kano.
The incident occurred on Saturday when a vehicle transporting scrap materials exploded shortly after arrival at the site. According to the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the vehicle had come from Yobe State.
Bakori, who addressed journalists at the scene, said he received an emergency call reporting the explosion and visited the site immediately. He stated that preliminary findings indicated the blast was caused by a military-grade explosive device.
“It was a military model bomb that exploded. Fifteen people were injured and taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital,” he said.
At the hospital, five of the injured persons were confirmed dead, while ten others were receiving treatment.
The police commissioner added that investigations were ongoing and that further details would be provided as the inquiry progresses.
