The Nigerian Customs Service today announced the interception of sophisticated arms and military equipment illegally imported into the country.
This was disclosed by the Tim Can Port Comptroller of the service, Bashar Yusuf while briefing newsmen in Lagos.
Mr Yusuf listed the seized items as 7,500 pieces of air rifles, pump action rifles, gas masks, military grade bullet proof vests amongst others.
He revealed that the times were concealed in a personal effects container and would have been brought into the country but for the vigilance of eagle eyed officers of the service who discovered it.
He called on Nigerians to always adhere to the laws of the land by refraining from bringing in banned items into the country, stating that the service will not hesitate to impound said items and make the importers of such items to face the full wrath of the law.
