A magistrates’ court sitting in Argungu, Kebbi State, has sentenced two Kaduna electric staff, Ibrahim Yakubu and Umar Salihu, over the diversion of funds meant for the Kaduna Electricity and Distribution Company.
Daily Episode gathered that the duo were charged in court with three counts labeled against them: conspiracy, breach of trust, and cheating.
However, the suspects were arraigned before the honorable court in Argungu after a series of investigations that proved the suspects guilty of committing the crime.
The court charged them with conspiracy after they pleaded guilty to diverting the sum of N5,000 of QKK engineering services meant for the company for their personal use.
However, the three-count charges labeled against them resulted in their sentence to the correctional center with an option of fines.
For criminal conspiracy, both of them were sentenced to three months with an option of N10,000 each.
The honorable court prosecuted and sentenced Salihu and Yakubu to twenty years in prison or a fine of up to N50, 000 for breaching trust as employees of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company.
Finally, the honorable court ruled that the accused served four years with the option of a N40, 000 fine for cheating.
Many Nigerians reacted to the judgment by calling for more prosecution as corruption has grown beyond expectations in both the public and private sectors of the country.
