The Comptroller of Kiri Kiri correctional center, Mrs. Lizzie Ekpendu, has been redeployed to the headquarters over an alleged suspected murderer’s emergence as Miss Cell 2022.
This comes days after the beauty pageant was conducted for female inmates in Lagos correctional center and generated serious reactions from Nigerians after a picture of Chidinma Ojukwu, the suspected killer of Super TV Ceo, was circulated as she was crowned Miss Cell 2022.
However, the authorities of the Kiri Kiri correctional center reportedly organized the beauty pageant to commensurate with the international women’s day celebrations for the inmates as part of their rights.
According to a report by the Vanguard newspaper, the comptroller, Mrs. Ekpendu, was redeployed to the Lagos Command Headquarters, Alagbon, Ikoyi, while another senior officer was assigned to replace her.
The argument still generates reactions on social media as many are of the view that criminals with murder cases don’t deserve to be treated fairly until a court of law declares them not guilty or acquitted.
While many encouraged and urged the authorities to consider inmates and be treated as humans, enjoying life with freedom, even under detention, is a right to all.
