The National Association of Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kaduna State Council, has today, December 16, 2021, inaugurated the newly elected council executives.
History was made today with Asma’u Yawo Halilu sworn in and inaugurated as the first-ever female Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council.
Barrister Ferdinard Ikuru administered the oath of office amid cheers from members, under the supervision of officials from the National Secretariat and vice president of Northwest Zone, Muhammad Tukur, as required by the union’s constitution.
In her maiden and inaugural speech, the new chairman of NUJ, Comrade Asma’u Yawo Halilu, pledged to unite members and restore professionalism amongst practicing journalists in the state.
“We will also prioritize the welfare of all members using the available resources at our disposal, generated by the council.”
“Our team will continually provide capacity-building opportunities for all members and ensure the resumption of active sporting activities, as, as they say, sports unite people.
Most importantly, we will give our secretariat a befitting look and make it very comfortable for all members to return to for relaxation after work, “she stated.
Comrade Asma’u also called on the general public to disregard Farida Abubakar, whom she said was parading herself as the Chairman of the union.
She stated that Farida was disqualified from participating in the Kaduna Nuj council election by the National Secretariat, which should be the highest arbiter on issues concerning elections at state levels.
The motion for the dissolution of the outgoing exco was moved and seconded by Andrew Meshielia of Nagarta Chapel and Lawal Ibrahim of FRCN, respectively.
Kaduna SWAN Chairman Jacob Zango was nominated after the dissolution of the past Exco to take over proceedings before handing over to the national delegation sent to conduct the inauguration of the new Kaduna council leadership.
