The Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese,Archbishop Callistus Onaga has accused the followers of fiery Catholic priest, Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka of violently breaking into his residence and vandalising properties within the residence which includes the Parish House and the Secretariat Building Complex. He also alleged that the protesters desecrated the Holy Altar of Sacrifice amongst other things.
In a letter dated Thursday May 6 and addressed to all Parishes, Chaplaincies and other Religious Houses within Enugu Diocese, Archbishop Onaga declared one week of prayer in reparation and atonement for such ” heinous acts” starting from Friday May 7 to May 14.
The genesis of the crisis starts on Tuesday when Rev Mbaka’s followers raised alarm over his disappearance which led to widespread protests in Enugu metropolis, with many of his followers accusing the Federal Government of being complicit in his disappearance owing to his recent criticism of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Rev Mbaka reappeared on Tuesday, accusing Archbishop Onaga of attempting to detain him for a month but was forced to release him due to the massive protest embarked upon by his Adoration Ground faithfuls.
