Some Nigerians have taken to social media platforms to react after pictures surfaced in which a street in Lagos was covered with refuse following the recent downpour in the state.
On Sunday, a Twitter user shared photos of how refuse has taken over Akobi crescent in Surulere with disposable packs and plastic bottles littered everywhere. He brandished the situation alarming and terrible.
“This is the current situation of Lagos State, Akobi Crescent, Surulere. Just the rain that fell overnight, see the outcome. This is alarming and terrible. @followlasg @jidesanwoolu,” he wrote.

The now-viral photos have since sparked a flurry of reactions on social media platform where some Nigerians registered their different opinions.
While a segment of users blamed the state government for bad drainage systems and lack of proper waste management, others called out residents of the area for their unhygienic methods of waste disposal.
“The @followlasg should seal up that area in Surulere and enforce their residents both old and young, male and female to clean up the drains and waterways. People are the problem,” a Twitter user said.
“This is an eyesore! There should be synergy between the citizen and government on waste management. We lean our voices daily to preach this @ClimateActionG1. @LagosWaste @followlasg please do something urgent on drainage and proper waste management at Surulere,” another user said.

Surulere people got to be the dirtiest people in the world. Every year they have this issue of waste spilling into the street and they come out to blame the government, like Sanwo was the one eating and disposing plastic plates on the street.
