To counter the setback education is facing in northern Nigeria, Universal Writers and Authors (UWA), a non-profit educational organization, charges to challenge poor teaching techniques among secondary schools by organizing English language competitions among the junior sections of secondary schools.

The Universal Writers and Authors seasonal English language competition constantly challenges students and schools to provide quality education while improving secondary school students’ vocabulary, accent, and confidence.

However, for the just concluded first round of the 2022/2023 English language competition, Olive International Schools beat several schools across Kaduna State to emerge victorious at the final round held on February 19, 2023.

According to Abdulaziz Alhassan, president of the Universal Writers and Authors Association, the performances of students and schools who participated in the competition were outstanding. “I am surprised with how young students performed excellently,” he says.

The level of improvement in answering questions, writing essays, and comprehension by students of various schools at this early age shows the commitment of schools and teachers towards delivering a sound and quality education in Nigeria.

It is incredible to tell you how the shortlisted schools performed in the UWA 2022/2023 English Language Competition, where Olive International School scored the highest mark to clinch first-round runner-up, while Iman Academy, Salfanamoh College, Iman Exclusive, and Iman International emerged 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, respectively. He continued

The results prove that our efforts to challenge education’s setback in the northern part of Nigeria are significantly coming to victory.

At Universal Writers and Authors, we are always saddened by the increasing number of out-of-school children and the low productivity of many; therefore, we opted to ensure quality education is accessible to every enrolled child and reawaken the lost glory of reading and writing among secondary school students for solutions and prosperity.

Although we thanked the Kaduna State Ministry of Education for its constant participation in our programs to achieve our mission of improving quality education and challenging poor teaching techniques, the governments and other relevant bodies, especially civil society organizations, need to collaborate and support initiatives like ours.
