As drug abuse continues among the populous in the country, the Kaduna state vigilante service has strengthened its operations to reduce the rate of crimes in parts of the state.

">

The services carried out numerous arrests of criminals and illicit drugs across the state.

The drugs, mostly cannabis (Indian hemp) and tramadol were seized in large quantities from an unidentified cartel that escaped arrest in the Ikara local government area of the state.

Brigadier General Umar Ibrahim (rtd), who served as the KADVIS commandant and special assistant to the Kaduna state governor, handed over the seized illicit drugs to the Nigerian Drug and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the KADVIS secretarial in Kaduna.

According to him, KADVIS has been helping the NDLEA and sister security agencies in the state, and they, however, remain committed to curtailing crime, for smooth and peaceful living within and outside the state.

It will be recalled that the Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai, raised the alarm about the high rate of drug abuse in the state.

The situation that prompted the governor’s proposal to acquire and demolish properties suspected of selling illicit drugs, as that would surely be a threat to landlords renting out their properties to such classes of people in the state.

While receiving the drugs, Mr. Adetula Oluwarotimi, who represented the NDLEA commandants, applauded the KADVIS’ in eradicating crimes and drug abuse, as he assured the NDLEA’s commitment to ending drug abuse in the country.

However, the Kaduna state commissioner of internal security and home affairs, Samuel Aruwan, who was represented by Garba Aliyu, Director of internal security and special services, disclosed that drug abuse plays a significant role in the insecurity bedeviling the country.

He believes most criminals commit the acts under the influence of hard drugs, therefore such action must be stopped to curtail the rate of crime and insecurity in the country.

">

He also applauded the KADVIS for their fearless operations despite the threat of insecurity, as he assures that ministry of internal security and home affairs will continue to support KADVIS whenever the need arises.
