Only Six Persons Abducted at Abuja University – Police
At least six members of the University of Abuja’s employees were abducted by suspected bandits, according to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
Before the abductees were taken away, there were random gunshots, according to a local.
The gunman went on for nearly two hours without being stopped by security personnel, according to the resident.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Babaji Sunday, said in a statement that he had despatched additional tactical and conventional policing resources to the main and satellite campuses of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA).
He further stated that the operatives have been assigned to man the institution’s staff quarters and other affiliate formations to strengthen security, improve public safety, and safeguard individuals in and around the university community.
A mixed team of police and personnel from the Nigerian Army’s 176 Guards Battalion were quickly mobilized to the area to safeguard the civilians, according to the CP.
“However, preliminary investigations revealed that the crooks allegedly took six (6) people into the jungle after spotting the security personnel,” he stated.
While urging calm, the CP stated that security forces are already assisting people in the region in the rescue of the casualties.
He promised that the criminals would be apprehended and prosecuted.
