In the Face of Rising Inflation and Corruption, the Group Demands Emeifele Resigns
The Arewa youth assembly called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Nigerian apex bank, CBN Governor Godwin Emeifele.
The group made the call at Arewa House in Kaduna, where they alleged misappropriations of funds, corruption, and poor economic strategy in the embattled Central Bank governor’s administrations.
The speaker, Mohammed Salihu Danlami, further debunks the rumor of his impeachment as he lamented Mr. Emeifele’s sponsorship of other groups to directly attack his person while he’s committed to providing solutions to Nigerians’ hardships by calling for the resignation and sack of an incompetent public servant. He added, “
The group further alleges that Mr. Emefiele met the naira exchange rate against the American dollar at 1 $to 170, but today, under his stewardship of the apex bank, it is 1 $to 575. This is happening as a result of the poor economic policies of the CBN, and it has been postulated that if nothing is done, a dollar will exchange for N1000 before the end of this year. That will not be good for Nigerians who struggle daily to earn their living.
It was gathered that the CBN failed to remit about N800 billion to naira to the Federal Government and hasn’t submitted the audited report of the apex bank to the office of the Accountant General of the Federation since 2010.
Under the watch of Mr. Emefiele as CBN boss, ₦150bn NIRSAL loan money got missing.
The distribution of Bureau-de-Change (BDC) licenses to unprofessional agents, the majority of whom are friends’ allies, has further devalued the naira because they have only used these windows for selfish purposes at the expense of the other 200 million Nigerians.
Over ₦500bn stolen from the CBN towards the end of 2018 in a private Dubai investment that went sour should be properly investigated.
However, they called on the ICP and EFCC to probe into the governor over the allegation.
In response to this, Abdullahi Maska, PRO of the Forex Traders’ Association, Kaduna State Branch, claimed that Emeifele is government property and that his services may be terminated at any moment, just like others before him.
