The militant group, Niger Delta Avengers has announced their continued operation in the Nigerian oil-producing state amidst rising insecurity in the country.
This is coming when Nigeria’s security nationwide is deteriorating, with kidnappings for ransom in the northwest, northcentral, and southwest, Boko Haram in the northeast, Eastern Security Network (ESN) who carried deadly attacks on police and northers in the southeast.
The militant group had on weekend threatened to cripple the Nigerian economy by attacking the downstream sector to halt oil exploration that will force the Nigerian economy into recession.
Niger Delta Avengers have been issuing a threat to the Nigerian government especially the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio of their agreement to constitute the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) at the end of June.
After the expiration of the said agreement, the group resolve to began a fresh attack on the Nigerian major source of revenue.
Recall that the Nigerian economy has suffered a recession in 2016 and 2017 from the attack on oil installations in the south-south region by the Niger Delta Avengers.
The said it has lost confidence in the Chief Edwin Clark-led Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), which played a critical role to make the group accept a ceasefire in 2017.
The group announces the promotion and appointment of female commander, Field Commander Tu-ere aka Queen of the Creeks to the rank of Brigadier General.
Queen of the Creeks was part of the Strike Teams that attacked and took down the Chevron Valve platform on the 4th of May, 2016; the Shell Forcados 48-inch Export line on the 3rd of June, 2016; and the Exxon Mobil Qua Iboe 48 Crude Oil Pipeline on the 11th of July, 2016 the group said.
The presidency and the Nigerian military are yet to respond to the issue that will cost the nation losing billions if neglected.
